> The “Just Listed” Approach
When it comes to painting the interior of your home, painting everything white is not your best bet.
Traditionally, sellers have heard that they should “just paint everything white”. This creates a blank slate for buyers to do what they want. This can send a message that the blank slate will require any buyer to re-paint once they move in. It also makes your home look just like every other white-walled house on the market.
Is this the message you want to send to your prospective buyers?
Not if you want MORE!
> Homes Sold for MORE™ Process
For years painting every wall in a home white was the go-to color of choice. Some builders still use “builder white” in every home they build. In the Grand Valley it’s more of a cost decision than the right decision.
It’s much less expensive to tape everything up and go crazy spraying every square inch of your new home with the same color. Unfortunately, white exudes the thoughts of “builder grade” and feelings of being sterile or lifeless.
Painting is one of those improvements that gets every seller a nice return for the effort and money, but only if you paint with the right colors. Focus on colors that help create feelings of warmth and comfort. Good color choices compliment woodwork, flooring and other finishes. Color that makes your kitchen cabinets “pop” will add enormous emotional appeal to the most sought-after room in the home.
Creating an inviting feeling in a home is one of many reasons we hire professional stagers with interior design skills. We offer complimentary color consultations with every home we list.
Our designers suggest colors that make a difference in how a room feels. Kitchens, bathrooms, primary bedrooms and living areas are first on our list for consideration. Bright or bold colors can come off as too personal and leave buyers thinking about all the painting they will have to do in order to feel settled in their new home.
Our goal is not to get you to paint every room in your home with the latest “in trend” colors. Primary areas are first for consideration, with bedrooms other than the primary owner’s suite not needing as much attention. Secondary bedrooms are often looked at through the lens of “that could easily be painted in an afternoon” by many prospective buyers. But bigger projects, like that 20-ft-high wall of windows with a bold red background that you love, should be toned down to appeal to the masses.
Adding the right type of color will add to your sales price!
